Abstract

Appropriate plant growth is dependent on the quality and conditions of the soil that is able to provide. Aeration, infiltration, water and nutrients retention, in turn, are the result of soil aggregation generated by the union of organic and mineral particles. Then, this study aims to evaluate the differences in physical attributes of a clayey Oxisol in different situations. Three areas will be used: a Forest (F) with five hectares, that will be a reference to compare the evaluated attributes, and two areas with maize cultivation, one with Conventional Tillage (CT) and another with No-Tillage (NT). After the corn harvest, it will be sampled 30 points in each cultivated area and 30 points in the forest, and soil sampling will be performed in two layers, 0 - 0,10 m and 0,10 - 0,20 m deep. Deformed samples will be collected with the help of dutch auger and samples in clods, with the help of mattock. In total, it will be sampled 180 points to determine the soil aggregation index, the weighted average diameter, the total organic carbon content, and the fractionation of organic matter in particulate organic carbon and organic carbon associated to minerals. Initially, descriptive statistics will be used to characterize areas, calculating mean, variance, standard error of the mean, confidence intervals for the mean and scatter plot for each area. Subsequently, it will be used a multivariate statistical method that will enable the identification and ordering of the variables that most influence the differentiation of 180 sampled points. (AU)
