Abstract

Cephalosporins represents, with no doubt, an important and rapidly growing group of antibiotics in the current medicine. It comes from a fungus, the Cephalosporium acremonium, able to produce many antibiotics similar to penicillins, but with the characteristic of being resistant to beta lactamase, in addition to be active against Gram-positive and Gram-negativem microorganisms. The isolation of the 7-aminocephalosporamic acid was an essential step for a semi synthetic production of many of this products, what has been happening in this last years in an impressive way, making difficult the rational selection among numerous existing products. Cephalotin is a first generation cephalosporin that is more active against Gram-positive microorganisms. Its effect is bactericidal, and due to its action, it is the first generation cephalosporin more efficient against resistant microorganisms (beta lactamases producers). Despite this drug be highly studied and researched regarding to antimicrobial activity, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic, there are a few studies in the literature regarding to the development of analytical methodology to its cephalosporin. In this way, researches envolving analytical methods are of great importance and highly relevant to optimize its analysis in the pharmaceutical industry and to ensure the quality of the marketed product. The proposal of this project is to develop and validate analytical methodologies, using high performance liquid chromatography. (AU)
