Abstract

This research aim to identify the processes in which the occupation of sparsely populated areas and its unoccupied areas have been developing in Brazilian cities, focusing on the case study of the cities Anápolis, Uberaba, Uberlândia, Palmas, Brasília, Cuiabá and Goiânia. In other words, demonstrate the ways in which these sparsely populated areas are incorporated into the dynamics of the real estate market in these cities, and what kind of morphological structure they tend to assume. The empirical approach focuses on the identification and analysis of recent use and occupation dynamics of areas with those features, and that can be interpreted as a striking aspect of the contemporary phase of the Brazilian urbanization: the macro-urbanization and the urban sprawl. The technical and operational resources to be used will come from georeferencing applied to the analysis of the urban space. The evidence base is from censuses and studies in progress in the national research group QUAPÁ-SEL. (AU)
