Abstract

Objective: the aim of this study is evaluate the association of the perception of the environment, social support, dependency in performing activities of daily living and of sociodemographic and behavioral variables with the practice of physical activities in a representative sample of elderly users of primary health care units, who reside in Ribeirão Preto-SP, Brasil. Methods: The instruments Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física (IPAQ), Escala de Percepção da Adequabilidade para Caminhar (NEWS, adapted version), Escala de Suporte Social de MOS and the Questionário de atividades funcionais de Pfeffer (FAQ) will be used, as well as a sociodemographic and behavioral questionnaire. It is a cross-sectional study. The sample will be composed by individuals aged 60 years or above, residentes in Ribeirão Preto, who are users of primary health care. The municipality is divided into five health districts, being North, West, Central, South and East. In each of these districts is located a Basic Health Unit (UBDS), which are reference for some medical specialties in the region. The data collection will be held in the five UBDS. The sample size calculated was of 357 participants, that was determined considering a stratified random sampling. The association of the perception of the environment, social support, dependency in performing activities of daily living and sociodemographic and behavioral variables with the practice of physical activities will be assessed using linear regression models. The analysis will be performed using SAS software (version 9.3). (AU)
