Abstract

Otosclerosis is a Dystrophy in the labyrinthine capsule, causing less mobility in the stirrup bone as well as joint stiffness in the system. Stapedotomy is a surgical technique that aims the hearing improvement in cases of otosclerosis, removing the ossicle with the disease focus and replacing it with a prosthesis, rebuilding the ossicular chain. With the system mobility reduction, a lower absorbance of the acoustic signal is expected. The state is probably reverted when subjected to the stapes surgery. The technological advance allows the absorbance energy and cochlear function research in the maximum peak of compliance. However, rare studies verify these functions. This study will analyze the acoustic absorbance and pressurized otoacoustic emissions in the otosclerosis diagnosis and post-stapedotomy monitoring phases.15 patients diagnosed with otosclerosis will be evaluated by means of acoustic absorbance and capture of pressurized otoacoustic emissions using the TITAN Interacoustic equipment. Two months after the surgery, these patients will be re-evaluated by basic audiometric testing, acoustic absorbance, and pressurized otoacoustic emissions. The study hypothesis is that it is possible to improve the diagnosis of patients with otosclerosis through the characterization of acoustic absorbance and pressurized otoacoustic emissions procedures.
