Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of the two at-home bleaching systems with prefilled whitening trays compared with the conventional fabricated trays regarding tooth whitening, gingival condition, tooth sensitivity and volunteer satisfaction with a subjective evaluation about the whitening systems. Thirteen volunteers will participate in the study after signing a free and informed consent form. The volunteers will be randomly divided in two groups: conventional fabricated trays and prefilled whitening trays. The fabricated trays will contain 10% carbamide peroxide and the prefilled whitening trays will contain 10% hydrogen peroxide. This whitening treatment will be accomplished 1x/day for 14 days / 2 h with the fabricated trays and for 10 days / 1 h with the prefilled whitening trays. Before this treatment, the volunteers will have a teeth prophylaxis with a paste based on (pedra-pomes) and water and the initial teeth shades will be registrated using a shade guide Vitapan Classical and a shade guide Vita Bleachedguide 3D-Master and a spectrophotometer Easyshade. The tooth sensitivity will be evaluated using a 0-10 scale associated with a visual analogue scale. The gingival condition will be evaluated using the Löe's index. The volunteer satisfaction with a subjective evaluation about the whitening systems will be analyzed through directed questions based on OIDP. The evaluations will be performed in different moments of the treatment and both examiners will be blind to bleaching, tooth sensitivity and gingival condition. The data of each volunteer at each stage will be submitted to appropriate statistical analysis, considering the significance level of 5%. | |
