Abstract

Women's satisfaction with childbirth depends mostly on their expectation and perception of control in the situation. Improvement of the maternal health care supply is largely important due to the quality of experience major effects on post-partum period adjustment and the relationship between mother and baby. The majority of studies discuss adult women's satisfaction with childbirth, but only a few focus on adolescents. Objective: To draw the profile of low-risk adolescents' pregnancies and assess their satisfaction with childbirth. Methods: This is a cross sectional study with prospective data collection in which postpartum adolescent women will be invited to participate, in order to assess their satisfaction with the delivery. The following inclusion criteria will be used: a live fetus delivery; maternal age over 15 and under 19 years; understanding research method and agreement to participate in the study. A semi structured questionnaire will be applied to each patient so as to collect data related to demography and birth and perinatal characteristics. Each patient will also be asked to answer a modified version of the Mackey Childbirth Satisfaction Rating Scale (MCSRS). The questionnaire consists of twenty-three (23) items, which should be scored from 1 to 5, so as to quantify their satisfaction with childbirth. The instruments will be applied in fifty (50) postpartum adolescent women at a low-risk maternity in São Paulo (SP), Brazil and compared with 50 postpartum adult women between the ages of 19 and 35 years. The collected data will be analyzed in a descriptive, comparative and quantitative method. (AU)
