Abstract

The Ceara Plateau is the largest seamount of the Brazilian Equatorial Margin (BEM), and the closest to the continent, in front of Fortaleza city. Its irregular shape also highlights the structure, which formation is unknown. This project exposes three hypotheses for its formation: (a) continental, (b) volcanic with terrigenous sedimentation and (c) volcanic covered by ancient reefs. Below the sediments it is possible to have continental or oceanic crust, and we aim to answer it using 2.5D gravity and magnetic modelling. Satellite and some oceanographic cruises data will be used for this purpose. The models will be correlated with two interpreted seismic profiles available in the region. (AU)
