Abstract

Fungal G-protein signalling coordinates development, mycotoxin production, quorum sensing and pathogenesis in multiple species. G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) communicate changes in the extracellular environment to intracellular signalling events through G-proteins, that initiate and direct the appropriate transcriptional response. However, the role of GPCRs and their activating ligands is largely unknown. This project will provide a complimentary multidisciplinary approach to investigate, using heterologous expression systems and electrophysiology, the function of GPCRs from the model filamentous mycotoxigenic fungus, and opportunistic human pathogen, Aspergillus nidulans.
