Abstract

Collisions between relativistic heavy-ions are a powerful tool for the study of nuclear matter under extreme conditions of temperature and baryonic density. In these collisions, a deconfined state of matter, the quark-gluon plasma, is created. The study of the evolution of this plasma allows us to understand fundamental aspects of QCD. Data accumulated during the last decades indicate that the plasma behaves like a liquid with low viscosity on expansion. Hydrodynamic models have been successful in describing several experimental observables. In this research project, we propose us to study aspects of hydrodynamic evolution of the plasma through computer simulations. It's a phenomenological project where the candidate will study relevant concepts in nuclear and particle physics, computational simulation and programming methods. (AU)
