Abstract

The proposal requests an internship in the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in order to prepare and write an essay about Camilo Castelo Branco's novel trilogy composed of Onde está a felicidade? Um homem de brios and Memórias de Guilherme do Amaral. The essay, planned to be a chapter of the main research "Aborrecimento e romance", aims at analyzing one exemplary episode regarding narrative forms which represent and induce yawns and passional astonishments during the so-called rise of the Portuguese novel. The internship also includes the work on bibliographical research for two other stages of the same study: the essay on A cidade e as serras by Eça de Queiroz and the conceptual definition of "aborrecimento" ("abhorrence" and related meanings like "disgust" and "boredom").
