Abstract

Actinic cheilitis (AC) is a potentially malignant lesion affecting mainly the lower lip semimucosa and in about 20% of cases it may undergo transformation into lip squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Objective: to evaluate Wnt 1 and ²-catenin expression in cases of QA and to compare them with CCEL by immunohistochemical technic. Material and methods: 30 cases of AC and 30 of LSCC will be reviewed by light microscopy and will be submitted to immunohistochemical reactions against to Wnt 1 and ²-catenin proteins. Analyzes will be performed by 3 researchers, independently, calibrated by Kappa test. The results will be correlated with their clinical characteristics and prognosis. The variables between the groups will be compared using the x2 test or Fisher's exact test. The survival analysis will be evaluated by Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards model. (AU)
