Abstract

The political system and the administrative division of Brazil influence the organizational model of the Brazilian political parties, especially in their decision-making structure, since the parties need to be multi-level, that is, with governing bodies at the municipal, state and national levels. The objective of the project is to analyze the dynamics of intraparty power and control mechanisms used by party officials, with emphasis on the use of temporary commissions. The research involves the nine parties with the highest number of branches: PMDB, PT, PFL/DEM, PSDB, PP, PDT, PSB, PR and PTB, from the pre-electoral period in 2006 to the post-election period in 2016. The hypotheses are that the defeat in state elections accentuates the change of leaders in the organs of that level and that the left-wing parties in the ideological spectrum would be more centralized and would have less autonomy in the state level. The methodology will be the comparative analysis through multiple documentary research, including party statutes, party and electoral laws and party documents that indicate interventions of the national level over state organs.
