Abstract

There is a worldwide concern about the quality of milk offered for consumption. The presence of coliforms in the milk within the established limit, guarantees the effectiveness of the inactivation of the microorganisms during pasteurization. However, when there are failures in the pasteurization of milk, or even when there is consumption of the raw product, cases of diseases in humans may occur. Molecular studies to identify strains of Escherichia coli in expansion tanks are practically incipient in Brazil, as well as the clonal profile of the isolates. The increase of resistance of the pathogens to the antimicrobials points to the need to investigate the sensitivity profile of bacteria isolated from milk from expansion tanks. Thus, the present study intends to identify the E. coli profile presents in milk expansion tanks as well as genes associated with virulence factors, genes involved in the formation of biofilms and the search of genes of isolates producing ²-lactamase enzyme (ESBL), as well as phenotypic studies of antimicrobial multiresistance and formation of biofilms in different materials. Thus, it is desired to deepen the knowledge of this pathogen, in order to enable control strategies to improve the quality of milk from expansion tanks, aiming at public health. (AU)
