Abstract

This PhD project aims at investigate the category of mode of production between 1845 e 1857-8, based on German Ideology (1845-46) and the Grundrisse (1857-8). Our reading hypothesis postulates that this category has changed from one work to the other. In his first formulation, which we called historical materialism model, the mode of production surges on German Ideology in the context of "to settle accounts" with former philosophical conscience and the critique of young Hegelians' abstractions. In this moment, mode of production is not tied to the concept of capital, given the fact that Marx himself will only elaborate it from 1850 onwards. Moreover, the category of mode of production it would seem to be fit to any historical period or any Economic-formation. In the second formulation, called by us critique of political economy model, beginning with Grundrisse, Marx articulates mode of production with the concept of capital. In this work, Marx finds out the commodity form as a basis for the presentation and for the sociability itself, so the mode of production could be only fully understood with the capitalist economic-formation. That would mean, according to Moishe Postone, that the applicability of that category and of others category to be restricted to capitalism. (AU)
