Abstract

Industrial companies impact not only the environment, but also in different dimensions of human life. Wealth gap, depletion of natural resources, pollutant emissions, improper working conditions, etc. are just some examples of the negative impacts from industrial activity. In this context, sustainable development practices are gaining strength in the industrial scenario in terms of combining the protection of the environment and the human being with gain of competitive advantage on the market, increasing therefore its long-term survival probability. The alignment of sustainability with the Integrated Management Systems (IMSs) has been, albeit timidly, approached in the scientific literature as a viable alternative to introduce socio-environmental actions effectively in organizations. The main objective of this research is to propose, in light of scientific theory, based on analysis of secondary data from ISE reports and 6 case studies, guidelines for aligning sustainability with IMS in industrial companies. The research accomplishment will follow six main steps: 1) deepening of the initial elements (introduction and justification); 2) complementation of the theoretical framework; 3) analysis of secondary data (ISE reports); 4) conducting six case studies 5) formulation of guidelines, and 6) conclusion. Finally, it is expected to obtain the following results: proposing guidelines for aligning sustainability with IMS in industrial companies; preparing 3 scientific articles with research's partial results for submission to Congress of Production Engineering area; preparing 3 papers for submission in international journals with Qualis CAPES A1 or A2 in Engineering III; conducting a free workshop for scientific and business community to promoting the research and its results; providing instructional materials (book, booklet or website) on the guidelines in order to contribute to sustainable development in the brazilian industrial context; and interact and integrate the development/research results with other scientific researches, master's and doctoral directed by Professor Otavio José de Oliveira and other research partners.
