Abstract

Devices fabricated using laser techniques, such as multiphoton absorption polymerization and laser micromachining have been widely explored for several applications. In recent years, these laser techniques have been applied in the fabrication of biomedical devices and three-dimensional platforms for evaluating the development of eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms. Functionalized biocompatible platforms also are very interesting for specific studies in biology. In this work, by combining multiphoton absorption polymerization and laser micromachining, we aim at producing biocompatible and biologically active platforms to assess the development of bacteria and cells. Such platforms may be functionalized with protein complexes or drugs, to enable or inhibit the growth of microorganisms. We also intend to produce manipulable components inside these platforms, in order to apply such structures for advanced drug delivery systems. (AU)
