Abstract

The present project of scientific initiation aims at analyzing the theme of the formation of the ideological conception of "Islamic terrorism" from the American Hollywood film production, in the light of the internationalist theories of the logistics of perception (of structuralist matrix) by Paul Virilio and soft power of Joseph Nye Jr., comparing both theories. In order to do so, five US blockbusters films of the post-09/11 period, in which this spectrum is centrally presented, were selected: (1) United 93 (2006), (2) The kingdom (2007), (3) Body of lies (2008), (4) Zero dark thirty (2012) e Unthinkable (2011). It is especially intended to investigate the internationalist theories of the relationship between international politics and mass media (especially Hollywood cinema), to investigate the media-ideological dimension of the phenomenon of contemporary terrorism, focusing the case of "Islamic terrorism" and to investigate the ideological formation of the western image of Islam from the Hollywood matrix.
