Abstract

Direct bioaccumulation is a process by which a chemical accumulates by the direct withdrawal of the environment through the oral, percutaneous and respiratory routes, and indirect bioaccumulation is the process by which a chemical accumulates in living organisms by the food chain. Aquatic beings have the ability to bioaccumulate a relatively high amount of arsenic more efficiently than terrestrial organisms, either by direct contact or by feeding on already contaminated organisms. The main objective of the project is to determine the concentration of inorganic arsenic capable of causing mortality of 50% of the Nile tilapia (Ochromis niloticus) population at different exposure times, evaluating the effects caused by the high concentration of As In the different tissues studied. The study and development for the treatment of arsenic-contaminated waters based on the SORAS (Solar Oxidation and Removal of Arsenic) for the effluents generated during these toxicity experiments will be critically optimized in this research.
