Abstract

This research Project focuses in the refugee camp of Calais, the "Calais Jungle", in the north of France that has its origin in the beginning of the years 2000 and its destruction in October 2016. The camp had its boom at the end of 2015/ beginning of 2016, when the population of refugees living there was estimated in 6000 people. As an Exchange student in France, I could visit it sometimes and produce, with a research group, some descriptive material about the camp situation in the first semester of 2016.The objective of this research is to organize this material in order to present the potential urbanity of the place, its organization and dynamics. And, thus, problematize its relation with the formal city, the different ways of appropriating a space according to the different cultures that inhabited the camp and think over the temporality of a territory that was supposed to be temporary but acquired a permanent status, although permanently threatened on its existence, gaining its own identity and social dynamics.
