Abstract

The goal of the present study was to compare the perceptual performance in children with and without phonological disorder (PD) on the stop identification task. Based on the assumption that the PD would affect the perception of phonological contrasts (Rvachew & Donald,1989, Brown, 2000), one could expect that the resulting the perceptual performance one the identification task would be more laborious and less accurated. Consequently, it is estimated that the perceptual performance of children with PD would be characterized by worst accuracy as well as longer reaction time. A forced-choice minimal-pair identification task involving the six stops in Brazilian Portuguese was conducted with 40 children (20 with PD and 20 controls of matched age and gender, using PERCEVAL software. The criteria of the analysis will be: (a) perceptual accuracy, (b) reaction time, and (c) identification of the error pattern by confusion matrix. (AU)
