Abstract

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is the main pathogen involved in the etiology of Bovine Mastitis from the environmental origin. Mammary infections by E. coli exhibit a wide range of clinical signs causing only milk anormalites (score 1), milk and inflammatory changes of the mammary gland (score 2) and significant systemic signs (score 3). E. coli belongs to the normal gut microflora of humans and animals and exhibits considerable variety of virulence properties. However, the profile of virulence factors that influenciate the severity scores of bovine clinical mastitis remains not fully understood. In this scenario, the present study intends to investigate both the occurrence of genes associated to the virulence of extraintestinal E. coli (ExPEC) and genes related to the different E. coli pathophypes, the classification in the phylogenetic groups, the presence of motility and the profile of antimicrobial resistance in E. coli strains isolated from Bovine Mastitis with different scores.
