Abstract

This project has as a research object a group of students of low income origin, enrolled in undergraduate courses, whose trajectory is associated to two focused federal public programs: the Progama Bolsa Família (PBF) and the Programa Universidade para Todos (ProUni). Both programs start from the premise that education is an important vector to fight against poverty. Therefore, this project aims to investigate a trajectory of undergraduate students, from elementary school to graduation; The importance or not attributed to the mentioned social programs; Their perception about themselves and other beneficiaries of social programs. The research provides for the realization of 10 (ten) semi-structured interviews with former beneficiaries of the PBF who attend undergraduate courses at an hinterland university of São Paulo. It is hoped that research can contribute to a better understanding of the trajectory of these students and their individual and family strategies for accessing and staying in a university; on the role played by the PBF and ProUni in these trajectories as well as that played by personal and/or family effort. More broadly, it seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the scope and/or limits of social inclusion policies and the meaning attributed to the personal/family effort by the beneficiaries of these policies.
