Abstract

The association between diabetes and platelet reactivity is well known and a recent publication has shown that the recurrence of thrombotic events in the month following acute coronary syndrome treated with percutaneous coronary intervention is four times higher in the diabetic than in the non-diabetic population. The effect of oral hypoglycemic treatment on the acute phase of myocardial infarction and its possible pleiotropic effects related to platelet aggregation could significantly change the prognosis of these patients. In this context, evaluation of platelet aggregability has great relevance and clinical applicability, but the ideal method is still not well established in the literature, being the same targets of several clinical trials and consensus recently published.
