Abstract

The phenomenon of thermomechanical fatigue is an important limiter of the useful life of structural and mechanical components of internal combustion engines. The understanding of the phenomenon based on elucidation of the interdependence between mechanisms of microstructural damage and occurrence of thermal cycles is a primary factor when aiming the construction of mechanical components of diesel engines of better quality. In this sense, it is intended to contribute to the improvement of cast iron alloys in terms of resistance to thermomechanical fatigue, as well as to contribute to a better physico-chemical understanding of the phenomenon.
