Abstract During puberty there occurs a set of physiological changes that progress with different speeds between sexes and individuals. In addition to the changes that lead to sexual maturation, behavioral alteration related to the development of abilities that allow regulation of impulsivity, associated with potentially harmful behaviors, are also observed. However, it is unclear which pubertal stage is associated with greater changes in impulsivity. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between pubertal staging (by self-report using the Pubertal Development Scale) and impulsivity, measured by the reduced UPPS-P scale, which evaluates 5 distinguishable impulsivity domains: Negative Urgency, Lack of Premeditation, Lack of Perseverance, Sensations Seeking and Positive Urgency. Considering that there are indications that individuals with early or late pubertal development have different impulsivity traits, we will also investigate this phenomenon with measures of relative pubertal development compared to peers. Participants will be 10 years or older. Our objectives are: a) to determine the adequacy of the reduced UPPS-P scale in the Brazilian population; B) to obtain a better understanding of the relationship between impulsivity and pubertal development in adolescents (n = 100) and whether, in adults (n = 100), impulsivity is related to a possible mismatch of past pubertal development in relation to participants' peers. The results will allow the identification of characteristics of impulsivity during adolescence which can be targeted for interventions. (AU) | |
