The therapeutic combination of cisplatin and metformin has been shown very effective in cancer treatment, especially in lung cancer. Metformin, a hypoglycemic drug frequently used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, has shown over the years a reduction in cancer incidence and mortality and therefore has been studied as a possible treatment against that disease. Several studies have demonstrated an effective combination of metformin and several other chemotherapeutics, including cisplatin. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms involving an action between cisplatin and metformin are still unclear. The present study aim to realize a proteomic analysis with lung cancer cells A549 submitted to this therapeutic combination, identifying changes in the expression of proteins by the SILAC (Stable Isotope Labeling by Amino acids in Cell culture) technique.
