Abstract

The project will introduce the candidate to the theory of distinguishability of non-interacting identical particles in the experiments of propagation in linear networks, for instance, single photons in quantum multiports, developed recently by the supervisor. The focus will be on the interference of more than three photons which represents a generalization of the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect. Distinguishability of three or more photons is a nontrivial notion, which cannot be reduced to simply distinguishability by pairs as predicted by the theory and demonstrated in a recent experiment. The project for IC is aligned with the project of the supervisor entitled "Behavior of identical particles in quantum networks and the Boson Sampling", 2015/23296-8, financed by FAPESP, and necessitates only basic notions of Quantum Mechanics, concepts of Linear Algebra, and, maybe, simulations in MATLAB.
