Abstract

The objective of this project is to perform the comparative study of the use of reactor, ultrasound and maceration as extraction methods for the preparation of standardized extracts in total flavonoids of Alternanthera paronychioides (Amaranthaceae), a Brazilian plant with potential antioxidant activity and antidiabetics. Therefore, it will be used as extractive liquids, distilled water and ethanol, and different extraction times for the same amount of vegetable powder and extractive liquid. The antioxidant activity in vitro (B-carotene assays, DPPH radical reduction and ORAC-FL) of the extracts will be evaluated and the active extracts will be quantified with total soluble phenolics using the Folin- Ciocalteu. Thus, this study may allow the development of procedures to obtain standardized extracts of A. paronychioides, in addition to evaluating whether the use of jacketed reactor and ultrasound improves the process of preparation of bioactive extracts, with maintenance of mass weight of the preparations obtained and reducing the time of extraction when compared to the classic method of maceration.
