Abstract

The quality and efficiency increase in processes due to waste reduction is one way found by Lean thinking, or Lean, to improve productive systems. Among these systems, health organizations, like hospital, have been using Lean Healthcare to aggregate more value to the services delivered to their clientes, reduce their wastes and improve service as a whole, especially in Surgery Centers, which are responsible for a large part of revnue and costs of these organizations. However, the performance measurement of thihs productive systems, as well as their indicators management, can be seen as a tough task, which can lead to a loss of focus in the processes improvement and decision making that do not represent the system's reality. Thus, this research Project aims the development of a system that can evaluate the performance of Surgery Centers, aiming to promote Lean Healthcare innitiatives, which can continuously improve the health system and, therefore, bring postive results to the stakeholders and clientes of these organizations. The stages of this project aim to carry out a bibliographic review of the relevant topics, the development of the Performance Measurement System (PMS), its application in a case study and the evaluation of the results obtained, culminating in proposals that combine performance improvement with Lean Healthcare innitiatives. It is hoped at the end of this Project to propose a structured PMS to monitor and control the performance of the Surgery Centers, aiming at better efficiency and management of these areas in the health system, waste reduction and greater value added to patients.
