Abstract

This project is part of the development of my PhD research, addressing contemporary social movements and the production of new political subjects, while emphasizing the current ways of the politicization of gender and sexuality. The overall objective focuses on the multiple political belongings of activists and their circulation, in order to understand the so-called "hyphenation" of feminisms. Based in Brazilian big cities, this ethnographic explores the experiences of self-identified feminist militants in an informal youth activism network. They are college educated middle class women in their twenties and thirties. In terms of subjectification, they go through several references like vegetarianism/veganism, punk, autonomism, the fanzines, the internet and anarchism, making connections with diverse political agendas that go beyond gender in a strict sense. With the aim of broadening and enriching the fieldwork data analysis, the Exchange program will take place at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS) under the supervision of Professor Sonia Alvarez, who for more than twenty years, has developed crucial researches on Brazilian and Latin America feminist movements. Through these studies, Alvarez has established significant analytical such as "discursive fields of action" and "sidestreamings", vital for the proposed investigation. (AU)
