Abstract

Despite the extensive volume of studies on workplace bonds over the past fifty years, conceptual problems and gaps in the understanding the context in which they develop are still present. Studies still lack on investigating the role of external variables on the development of bonds. The main objective of this proposal is to analyze how organization's internal and external contexts impact on commitment, entrenchment and embeddedness. In a cross-cultural perspective, this study will compare bonds of workers from organizations in Brazil and United States. Additionally, it will investigate the conceptual and empirical delimitation between these bonds. Data collection will occur in both countries, and aim to reach 1000 cases, using different strategies. We will perform sophisticated statistical analyzes, including exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes for measures validation, structural equation modeling for nomological network testing, and ANOVAs and cluster analysis, such as latent profile analysis. This project is expected to be the beginning of a new tendency that also considers organization's external context for the understanding the workplace bonds. In addition, measures developed by researchers in Brazil will be validated for the American context, enabling comparison of results and greater internationalization of Brazilian research in this area. The plan of activities also includes participation in complementary research, scientific events and methodological courses, as well as collaboration in the organization of an international event, which will generate repercussions for new collaboration networks and future productions.
