Abstract

This research project aims to organize and analyze the archaeofaunistic samples of the Sambaqui Jabuticabeira II, an archaeological site located in the southern region of Santa Catarina. Although this site has previously been investigated (Klökler 2001; Nishida 2007), most of the samples deposited in the MAE-USP technical reserve have not been analyzed to date. This procedure will allow to increase the knowledge about the archaeofaunistic vestiges of this site, as well as to observe its spatial and temporal distribution. This approach aims to detect variability in the archaeofaunistic record that may be related to the transition between the sambaquieira culture and the proto-Je occupations that mark its arrival to the coast from about 1600 years ago. Finally, two zooarchaeological collections will be developed, which will serve as archaeofaunistic reference material for future research that will address the southern context of Santa Catarina. (AU)
