Abstract

The purpose of this research is to problematize the traditional meaning of critique in Kant as delimitation, showing its connection with a meaning of enlargement of thought. If we have in mind the Critique of Pure Reason, Kant's critical project begins by confronting the posture of enlargement of knowledge beyond experience. In this confrontation, we notice how the search for this enlargement puts at risk the dominion of all a priori knowledge (or of all philosophy). However, when we understand the critical project beyond a propaedeutic toward a science in general, a new perspective is opened for understanding the connection between critique and the enlargement of thought. This openness occurs both in the Kantian texts published in journals and in the last Critique, which approaches a reasonable number of concepts from different fields and helps us to understand how the delimitation achieved by critical investigation results in a permission, outside the scope of the Knowledge, of a use of concepts beyond their objective validity, a use that, however, would not incur in contradictions or confusions of language. Thus, emphasizing the concern about the broad way of thinking provide us an understanding of the meaning of critique that reveals the insufficiency of its meaning referred to knowledge and reveals the reason for its connection to the reflective activity of the Judgment.
