Abstract

The groups of microorganisms that cause invasive fungal infections in hospital have been progressively increasing, among which are the Trichosporon species, identified as important causes of invasive infection. Aiming to increase knowledge about this pathogen and help in understanding the aspects that involve early diagnosis and adequate therapy, especially in hospitalized patients, this work will aim to: identify, through phenotypic and genotypic techniques, Trichosporon species isolated from hospitalized patients; determine and compare factors related to virulence (production of the enzymes phospholipase, proteinase and hemolytic activity); determine and compare the ability of the samples to produce biofilm; to evaluate the sensitivity of the isolates against fluconazole, itraconazole, amphotericin-B and voriconazole by the broth microdilution method (CLSI-M27-A3); compare laboratory findings with patients' clinical data; correlate the identified species with data found in the study of sensitivity to antifungal drugs.
