Abstract

By the end of the Sixties, the outgrowth of the repression in Brazilian dictatorship is established under the hard penalty of the Ato Institucional nº 5 [Institutional Act nº 5]. The repressive organs of the regime close the siege over actors, poets, writers, and all kind of professionals of culture and, of course, the musicians would not have a different treatment. With the dictatorship chasing their feet, many Brazilians in that professional area considers the possibility of abandoning the country and join others that took refugee outside Brazil. Therefore, this research aims to deal with the life experience of three artists that felt, one way or another, force to take up the exile after the end of democratic and creation freedoms wich came from the Ato nº 5 [Act nº 5]. They are: Chico Buarque de Hollanda, Gilberto Gil e Caetano Veloso. This project seeks to understand the experiences of these artists in the exile and after their return, using their artistic and intellectual production, and their memories as analytical basis, besides the objective of measuring and analyzing the monitoring of the Brazilian government over their lives from the national and international Collections of diplomatic documents. As main hypotheses, we have that the relations with the repressive organs and the experiences acquired during the exile had an impact in the forms of comprehension and development of the artists work itself, as well as in their later political positioning.
