Abstract

The main objective of this project will be to investigate the effect of the induction of post-muscular activation (PAP) on "anaerobic" capacity. As a secondary objective, the etiology of fatigue during the supramaximal effort will be investigated at 115% of the intensity of maximum oxygen consumption (iVO2max). For this, the project will be divided into 2 studies, study "A" and study "B". Study "A" will aim to characterize fatigue in supramaximal effort at 115% of iVO2max. For this, 15 young male adult recreational cyclists will perform 4 visits to the laboratory. Initially the subjects were submitted to a maximum incremental test (TInc) to determine the maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) and the lowest intensity at which VO2max was reached (iVO2max). In the next three visits, they will be submitted to four supramaximal exercises at 115% of the iVO2max, so that two of them will be performed as familiarization and one with a neuromuscular evaluation to characterize the fatigue. The neuromuscular evaluations will be performed before and after exercise, composed of maximal isometric contractions of knee extension. Associated with neuromuscular evaluation, the neuromuscular electrical stimulation technique will also be applied to the analysis of indicators of central and peripheral fatigue. The study "B" that will investigate the effect of post-muscular activation on the determination of "anaerobic" capacity. For this, 15 recreational cyclists, young adult male sex, will perform 5 visits to the laboratory. In the first visits, subjects will be submitted to 1 TInc and 2 supramaximal efforts. In the 2 subsequent visits, the volunteers will perform 2 supramaximal efforts to 115% of the iVO2MAX to determine the "anaerobic" capacity, however one will be performed after the PAP while the other will be performed without the PAP, being assumed as a control condition. The application of these efforts will be randomized. There will be a 48-hour interval between each test. (AU)
