Abstract

The objective of this study will be to identify proteins from amniotic and allantoic fluid correlated with fetal maturity of cows. Fetal fluid will be collected from slaughterhouses of pregnant females in different gestational ages. The fetuses will be measured, weighed, sexed and the fetal fluids will be centrifuged and the supernatant will be stored for later evaluation. Fetal maturity will be determined by the Clements test using amniotic fluid and fetal characteristics. The total protein concentration of fetal fluids will be quantified by the Bradford method and protein identification by mass spectrometry. With the results of mass spectrometry, the interactome networks will be constructed and the gene ontology of each identified protein will be studied. We believe that this study will contribute to the knowledge of the physiology of pregnancy in cows and that the proteomics may be a tool of analysis of the fetal age, in order to determine the ideal moment of induction of labor when necessary. In addition, this project will contribute to the scientific development of the student, in order to participate in unaccompanied research activities during graduation. (AU)
