Abstract

The selected student will study experimentally and theoretically the nonlinear optical properties of pure and functionalized graphene, participating in scientific collaborations with other groups in this project, including groups abroad. The nonlinearities to study are saturable absorption and wave mixing, the student will use the techniques of pump & probe and laser induced gratings, aiming at understanding how the nonlinearities depend on the number of graphene layers and several dopants. In the theoretical part, the student will collaborate with other group members in modeling the physical mechanisms that give origin to the nonlinearities, and will include computing simulations. Within the collaborations, the student should perform one or two stays in the Singapore Graphene Center. (AU)
