Abstract

The selected candidate will conduct a theoretical-experimental research program of the dynamics of carriers in pure graphene and functionalized with dopants, maintaining scientific collaborations with other groups of projects, including from abroad and co-orientating the students of postgraduate and scientific initiation of the our group.Understanding a dynamics of carriers of graphene is essential for the development of passive optical modulators and switches a saturable absorption base. As is often not usual with graphene, an effective mass of the carriers is very small, so it is very fast, not resonant linearities. This makes graphene a very attractive material for fully optical switching and mode-blocking of lasers.The postdoctor should assemble and conduct pump-and-probe and laser-induced grid experiments using femtosecond laser pulses to characterize and understand the various relaxation mechanisms, such as collisions (electron-electron, electron-hole, hole-hole), interaction with phonons, spreading between-valleys, intraband thermalization, relaxation of anisotropy, diffusion... It should also perform systematic experiments to understand how depends on the relaxation of the number of layers of graphene and various dopant.In the theoretical part, the candidate should collaborate with the other members of the project to model the mechanisms of relaxation, including with computer simulations.Within the collaborations, the postdoctor should do internships at the Graphene Center in Singapore and train students from both Unicamp and Mackenzie to use the laboratory for time-resolved measurements.
