Abstract

The boar is one of the most widely introduced mammals in the world. In Argentina this species was introduced more than 100 years ago for sport hunting purposes, but after escapes it was dispersed throughout much of the territory including protected areas. In the Nahuel Huapi National Park, wild boar has been present for decades, causing a great diversity of negative impacts that include the modification of the physical-chemical soil properties, predation of native animals, dispersion of exotic plants seeds and diseases transmission. Thus, this invasive species is of great interest to the NHPN. In this project we will use wild boar presence data found in the database, previous research and field data. In this way, this invasive species causes great concern for the NHPN. In this project we will use presence data, date of registration and location of direct sightings or traces of wild boar found in database, previous research and field data. With the information obtained, an updated distribution map will be made showing the dispersion of the wild boar since its introduction in the park, its potential dispersion routes and finally, priority sites for its management and control will be identified. This information will be used by NHNP and CONCIET researchers to delineate more successful management strategies with the main objective of controlling this invasive species, avoiding its dispersion and reducing its impacts.
