Abstract

Patterns and processes that explain the genetic diversity of organisms are topics that intrigue Evolutionary Biology. One issue that can be flagged is what factors regulate genetic diversity among different species. This issue still lacks a greater amount of empirical data, especially in relation to the marine environment. Thus, studies that use comparative methods and with a greater number of study models are of valuable importance for the resolution of these questions. In this work, it is proposed to use Brachyura Neotropical Atlantic species as models to evaluate how biological and ecological characteristics are related to the genetic diversity of these organisms. Specifically, we intend to explore issues related to a possible pattern of genetic diversity within a representative and relevant group (Brachyura) in adaptive terms, as well as the relationship between some ecological reproductive (fecundity, longevity of development) characteristics (habitat) and geographical (latitude) in relation to genetic aspects. This work has an integrative character, and strongly aligned with contemporary research lines of Evolutionary Biology. Finally, there is a great potential for this project to result in novel and relevant results on patterns of genetic diversity, especially regarding the reproductive and genetic structuring aspects of Neotropical Atlantic brackish crustacean species.
