Effects of dietary intervention with Musa sp (AAA) flour on the obesity in mice

Abstract

Obesity is a disease characterized by the abnormal or excessive deposition of fat, with dangerous effects on health. Fat deposition is related to high intake of occidental foods and sedentary life style. This disease has no cure and its treatment is very expensive, low efficacy and related to several adverse and side effects produced by available drugs. Nowadays, obesity has been classified as an inflammation of low grade induced by excessive fat deposition on the adipose tissue. Fat deposition in obese induce adipocytes to produce cytokines and acute phase proteins when compared to non-obese. In addition, there is an interaction between obesity and intestinal microbiota and data showed a noted difference in intestinal microbiota composition between obese and non-obese. A lot of studies have been demonstrated that there is an interaction among intestinal microbiota, immunomodulation and obesity. Intestinal microbiota can be modulated by several products, mainly prebiotics. Fermentative process of prebiotics by bacteria form intestinal microbiota generates short-chain fatty acids, in which act on the cytokines and phase acute protein gene expression. Studies with green dwarf banana flour at 10% performed in our laboratory produced beneficial effects in the intestinal inflammation with increased production of short-chain fatty acids. Based on this, we propose evaluate the effects of a dietary intervention with green dwarf banana flour at 10% on the obesity induced by hypercaloric diet using Black C57BL/g mice. For this, obesity will be induced with hypercaloric diet by 8 weeks. After this, animals will be divided in four experimental groups: control group (obesity + normal diet), treat group (obesity + dietary intervention with green dwarf banana flour at 10% by 21 days), pair-feeding group (obesity + normal diet reduced in 30%) and health group (animals without obesity + normal diet). After this, we will perform clinical analysis (food consumption and gain/loss body weight), macroscopy of main body tissues, microscopy of adipose tissue and, biochemical analysis (leptin, adiponectin, resisting, reactive C protein, IL-6, TNF-±, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol).
