Abstract Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a North American certification system available since 1999, nowadays with a worldwide influence in green buildings. There are several works discussing it, many of them aiming a better environmental and technical performance. Nevertheless, few of them inquire the certification theoretical and historical roots, therefore risking losing crucial factors that shape the contemporary cities. This research aims to advance on this gap. It addresses then to a history of LEED, on the one hand, and to a theory of it as a global standard, on the other hand. These goals will be achieved through interviews with key agents and unfolding notions that surround organizational and architectural theory of global standards. (AU) | |
