Abstract

Bioluminescence, the light emission produced by living organisms, has been widely found in terrestrial habitats in Elateroidea superfamily. The mechanism of light production in this superfamily is well known, however studies about genome organization and size are not discussed yet. The functional genomic projects are helping to identify important structural and functional elements of genomes and genetic variation, as well as to identify clustered genes involved in similar function and localized in the same chromosome. Thus, to improve the information about the genome organization, size, and duplication events in Elateroidea species, we will perform the whole genome sequence of Phrixothrix hirtus (Phengodidae). We will apply in this study two distinct approaches: a sequencing using a 600 bp pair end sequencing and a mate pair library of 5 Kb, both to sequence in the Illumina HiSeq platform. These two approaches should help to improve the size and quality of the assembled genome. (AU)
