Abstract

In 2015, "the worst refugee crisis since World War II" was established. Syria, specifically, witnessed since the beginning of its civil war in 2011 an exponential increase in the number of refugees and internally displaced people. This research aims to analyze media coverage of Syrian refugee crisis by news portals G1 and Al Jazeera English, taking into consideration the concepts of Peace Journalism for categorization and interpretation of the contents. It is expected that the analyzes suggest what are the views of Brazilian journalism on Syrian refugees and if the proximity factor is determinant for a thorough and humanizing coverage in Al Jazeera's case.
