Abstract

Sugarcane cultivars planted nowadays are result of genetic enhancement that aimed for productivity improvement, however, this diminished the species competitive potential, which could be associated to the allelochemicals present or released by each variety. The Poaceae family resides among the most studied families in behalf of allelochemicals. Allelopathy is characterized by the influence of one plant on the growth and establishment of another plant trough the production and release of secondary metabolites to the environment. This way, the objective is to characterize the allelopathic potential of sugarcane, CTC 2 and IAC 911099 cultivars, through radicular exudation liberation method ("in vivo" plant); isolate fractions and active substances. To verify the allelophatic potential, exudates will be collected through hydroponic method and with inverted bottles, then applied to test-plants and target-plants (cito and fitotoxicity experiments). Plants in coexistence method will also be tested on boxes with and without radicular interference. The most active exudates will be fractioned according to appropriate chromatography techniques and the fractions will be tested with in the same procedures. The bioactive fractions will be analyzed to identify the existing substances. (AU)
