Abstract

Environmental perception is a process which human beings structure and organize an interconnection with the constructed environment, selecting the perceived information and assigning meanings to them. The humanization of spaces in order to supply the demands of physical-spatial, functional and ergonomics, is a way to meet the expectations and desires of the users. Considering the increase in demand for airport services, the objective of this research is to analyze the people environmental perception at an airport, and to evaluate how space is perceived by users, provoking sensations of functional, ergonomic and sensorial comfort. In this case, it was selected some variables that could be related to the development of this study. Among them, if the age group determines preferences for some places of the airport; as well as checking whether being alone or in a group is a factor that determines the choice by the type of place of stay; and finally, it is intended to demonstrate that the DePAN method, based on graphical meshes and created for the evaluation of urban space, is capable of being adapted to evaluate the closed space. The methodological outline is "Field Research". The DePAN includes methods of Observation and Behavioral Map and it is made the physico-spatial and ergonomic registry of the environment, which allows to graphically show the attributes of the space. This method also registers people using space, with the possibility of identifying them by gender and age group, representing whether they are alone or in a group, as well as the forms of interaction between them.
