Abstract

Within this Thematic Project it is intended to study some of the possible routes in a biorefinery that integrates biodiesel and bioethanol (1G-2G) production, while higher valued molecules are synthesized (which are important for the economic feasibility of the business). An innovative approach of this Project is the systematic application of a methodology that allows studying the processes (focused by different project work packages) while integrated to the industrial plant already. In other words, establishing performance goals, identification of bottlenecks, techno-economic-environmental analysis of the different processes (studied in the different labs of the Project team), while not be stand alone activities, but rather integrated to simulations of the whole factory. Of course, this approach will demand a great effort for articulating all groups of the Project, generating synergies for a virtuous circle. For this, highly qualified experts in (Bio)process Systems Engineering are demanded, able to develop and implement the necessary computational algorithms. This post doctorate working plan is directed to a professional with this profile, ready to interact and contribute to Line 1 fo the Thematic Project (Synthesis, optimization and TEA integrated to the simulation of the ethyl-biodiesel bioethanol 1G-2G biorefinery). This is a transverse line of the Project, therefore. The post-doc fellow will contribute for continuing the development and application of a methodology recently put forth by LaDABio, with collaboration fo COPPE-UFRJ and DTu-Lyngby). This approach (Retro-Techno-Economic Analysis), unpublished for the best of our knowledge, was recently described by Furlan et al., 2016a. This methodology "turns the problem upside down", integrating economic metrics to the equations of the mathematical models of the process, all simultaneously solved by an equation-oriented simulator (EMSO will be this simulator, see Furlan et al., 2012, 2014). The post-doctorate fellow will initially apply this methodology to some of the processes/products studied by the different labs of the Project.
