Abstract

From the perspective of Vygotsky (1999), considering art as an instrument derived from intentional human action, objectified throughout the development of the human genre, which enables the subject to know and transform his social reality, as well as to articulate complex human psychological functions, such as abstraction, creativity, perception, and emotion, it is important to think about it's importance in the processes of teaching, learning and development of individuals and how the school has made use of these functions to rescue important aspects that mark the history of humanity, aiming to provide a critical human development of the students by promoting their cognitive-affective development. Thus, through the lens of Historical-Cultural Psychology, this research aims to comprehend the role of art in human development and, through a bibliographical review, to explain the relationship between art and school education, with the purpose of showing how the school uses universal artistic productions and introduces them to the process of knowledge-building and development of its students.
